What to Tell People

There are some social media sites I just can’t read right now. Even people I know to be caring and loving are posting things viciously and unthinkingly cutting down people and groups. It’s time to take today’s Thursday Thought quote to heart.

Down but not Out

Did you miss me?  I hope so.  I was  busy pulling my hair out over the fact that my website/blog was gone.  I know that the cyber-trolls that live under the Net Bridge like to  mess with me.  But, once again, I defeated them.  And I’m back to my Monday-through-Saturday postings.  I’m collecting ideas now to inflict on you next week.  (Tomorrow, of course, is my Sensible Saturday, focusing on the environment.)

Something You Can Bank On

If your family makes the average 7 by-mail payments per month, you can save 24 sq. ft. of forest per year by paying all your bills online. Your bank’s Bill-Pay service is easy and safe.  And with the cost of stamps constantly going up….Leaf 6

I’m Safe but Lonesome

Thanks to the reader who suggested I check to see if my spam filter was still working.  Duh!  All my education and I just trusted it.  For some reason, it had stopped working.  I reactivated it and put another one on, to boot.  Haven’t had a single message since.  Not yesterday or all day today.  I’m getting lonesome. I know I asked you to hold off on comments until I got this straightened out.  But, now, PLEASE look through some of my old posts and send me a comment on one of them.  Please!  I….feel….so….alone……

Help! I’m Drowning!

I really AM drowning! I’m being pulled under the cyber-sea by spam.  That’s why I haven’t posted for a couple of days or answered you if you’ve posted.  I’m getting over 200 pieces of spam a day.  I deleted many pages of it on Friday, but my total un-deleted ones is, at this moment, 1,266.  I thought by not posting for a few days they’d go away—or get a life.  Guess not.

Anybody have any suggestions?  If so, please go onto my Contacts page on this website and send me an email so your comment does NOT get lost in the spam.  I’d appreciate any help I can get!

……………..&%$#@!!!!  There’s another one…two……….

Too Much Sex for Facebook?

Not really sex because sexual abuse is about power, not sex.  Facebook has been skittish about such matters as breast-feeding and mastectomies, not allowing pictures about them.  On the other hand, posts, pictures, and jokes about sexual abuse and rape have been just fine.  That has changed—not due to a newly grown corporate conscience but to women’s groups who knew how to fight this use of violence against women as entertainment.  They went to Facebook‘s advertisers and complained.  Advertisers put on the pressure, and now Facebook has enacted a new policy.  That is, if you choose to post something that is cruel or insensitive, you must honestly identify who you are.  This ensures your free speech while filtering out such “witticisms” as the picture (I won’t describe it) with the caption “This is why Indian girls get raped.”

Putting on my cynic’s hat, though, I can see a bunch of ways around this.  For example, most of us know someone who signed up under a false name, and Facebook isn’t wise to it.  Friends know who those people are—the friends that he plays to in his posts.  No problem, then, giving his “true” identity and posting all the garbage he wants.

But this IS a step in the right direction.  I’ll go online, find the Facebook posting about this, and punch “Like,” just to let the corporation know we’re out here watching them.
