Cute Animals: Scientific Study

I read an interesting article I wanted to pass on to you. If you don’t like animals, take a pass on this one. The rest of us, well, it just proves what we’ve always known. Science shows watching cute animals is good for your health

You knew watching videos of puppies and kittens felt good but now there’s data to back that feeling.

A study conducted by the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, in partnership with Western Australia Tourism, has found evidence to suggest that watching cute animals may contribute to a reduction in stress and anxiety.

The study examined how watching images and videos of cute animals for 30 minutes affects blood pressure, heart rate and anxiety.

Dogs & Covid-19

Studies are going on right now to see if dogs can sniff out the coronavirus in people. For a long time, dogs have sniffed out other diseases (e.g., diabetes and malaria), so scientists are confident that they’ll be able to do the same with covid-19. Imagine dogs screening people at airports and gatherings. They’re quicker than waiting for the results of a test. Of course, if you’re singled out by the dog you’ll still have to take the test to be sure. If not, though, you forego the anxiety of wondering if you should be tested. Watch this short video:

Bedtime Story

A friend sent me this video. I thought you might enjoy it. It’s a bedtime story a dad tells his child about the world he foresees.

What Do Nurses Actually Do?

Yesterday, on their special day, I highlighted teachers. Today, on National Nurses Day, we honor those who have chosen to spend their lives caring for us. They do it in so many ways that we don’t even think of, as this video shows. Thank you, nurses, for all that you do.

Remember: 75 Years Ago

Some claim it never happened.  Others hear stories about it from relatives and friends.  Still others lived through it.  It affects all of us, because it was one of the most heinous crimes that humans have perpetrated against fellow humans.  The Holocaust.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day.  It’s been 75 years. Yet, we remember it so that we can prevent it from happening again, even as we see shades of it developing in our world today.

Take a few minutes to view this video, “Rescue,”  of people who refused to accept the inhumanity and fought it–and are still fighting it–by taking action.

95, with Stitches and a Heart

I’d like to do some charity work, try to make a difference in people’s lives. But I’m 95, so I’m not super strong. and I fell recently and am recovering with sore muscles and 14 stitches. You can’t expect me to do much.

If you can say this, your name is not Jimmy Carter. At 95, recovering with a black eye and stitches, he’s out there in Nashville building porches on 21 homes. He’s active and enthusiastic in his work with the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, working with Habitat for Humanity. Read about this HERE. And take a minute to watch the short video there. Then, if you are NOT 95 and ailing, what’s stopping you from a little volunteer work?

A Pencil that Grow into a Plant

Here’s a fun way to dispose of no-longer-usable pencils without disposing of them. Huh? Well, you have to have a certain kind of pencil (Sprout). But check out this video. I hope it “grows” on you as much as it did on me. All I can do is “plant” the idea in your head.

A Way to Re-Home the Homeless

It’s a miracle! Well, a miracle message. That’s what the non-profit is called because that’s what they deliver. They’re partnering with cities to get these messages out. The organization makes videos of a homeless person and uses it to try to find family who have lost contact with them. The videos have been successful in reuniting people and getting them off the streets and back home.

Read about this organization, what they do, and the success story of Wayne and his niece Jasmine.

What if there were iPhones in Biblical Days?

If you have even a little familiarity with Bible stories, you’ll get a chuckle out of this video.  I lifted it off of Fr. Matt Stanley’s Facebook–he’s my previous pastor.

Must Watch Video on Appearances

This simple experiment with a young child makes a powerful statement.
