Of People and Flowers

I don’t have a quote for today’s Thursday Thought, just a musing…something that I’ve been thinking about:

How can it be that someone who marvels and delights in the myriad colors and hues of various flowers don’t  have the same attitude toward people?

Just wondering….

I’m Re-Thinking

Today’s Thursday Thought, along with a discussion with my son, is causing  me to re-think my support for bringing down those statues.

“I don’t think it is wise or possible to hide from history.” — Andrew Young

Why TWO Ears?

I always wondered why we have those things attached to our bodies.  Today’s Thursday Thought explains it well.

“We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.”  — Epictetus

We’ll All Get There

In today’s Thursday Thought quote, George Washington Carver gives some good, even practical, advice:

“Be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, tolerant of the weak, because someday in your life you will be all of these.”

Advice from an Old President

Today’s Thursday Thought quote reminds all of us–citizens, legislators, world leaders, family members–of what really matters.

“We all do better when we work together. Our differences do matter, but our common humanity matters more.”  —  Bill Clinton

Create Sunshine

I don’t know who said this Thursday Thought quote, but it makes a lot of sense.

“Today, give a stranger one of your smiles.

It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.”

When Half-Way is Enough

Against my normally better judgment, I’ve been getting myself into heated discussions over what’s going on in the world and our country.  As we “discuss,” I find myself stolidly sticking to my viewpoint.  The result is that I don’t learn anything new, including why the other person rightly feels the way he does.  That’s why today’s Thursday Thought quote hit home for me.

“The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people half way.” — Henry Boyle

Who’s at War?

There’s no such thing as a war between countries, as Francois Fenelon points out in today’s Thursday Thought quote:

“All wars are civil wars because all men are brothers…Each one owes infinitely more to the human race than to the particular country in which he was born.”  —  François Fénelon

Hope Amid Horror

Anne Frank lived–and hid–in an unbelievably harsh, cruel world.  Yet even she had hope for the world, as today’s Thursday Thought quote shows.

Handling the Darkside

In today’s Thursday Thought quote, MLK  calls us to the bright side.
