Keep Them Close

Today’s Thursday Thought quote suggests we should remember to treat family as we do others. We tend to nurture friendships and business relationships but take family for granted, knowing that they’re stuck with us. Yet, practicing humility, compassion, respect, courtesy, and love with them is good practice for dealing with others in our often frantic world.

“Keep your loved ones near you; tell them in their ears and to their faces how much you need them and love them.  Love them and treat them well; take your time to tell them ‘I am sorry’; ‘forgive me’; ‘please’; ‘thank you,’ and all those loving words you know!” —  Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez (“Gabe”)

Earth-Shaking Concerns for Fun)

From time to time I offer you deep thoughts to ponder, so deep they’d take a mm of dirt to cover a penny. Just for fun, then, here are some of those thoughts:

The word “swims” upside down is still “swims.”

Which letter is silent in the word “scent,” the s or the c?

What if my dog only brings back the ball because he thinks I like throwing it?

It’s just as hard to intentionally lose a game of Rock, Paper, Sissors as it is to win.

Maybe oxygen is slowly killing you and it takes 75 – 100 years to fully work?

If poison is past its expiration date, is it more poisonous or no longer poisonous?

Do twins ever realize that one of them was not planned?

Every time you clean something you make something else dirty.

Do You Pray?

You probably do pray sometimes when you don’t recognize it as actual “prayer.”  Even atheists pray.

Sometimes I come across something I think is a beautiful way to look at things. I found this on the Facebook posting of a friend and want to pass it on to you for today’s Thursday Thought.

I Never Thought of That!

Sometimes simple logic can be, if not earth-shaking, at least entertaining.  Consider these logicalities. [Thanks to Linda Younts for sending me these.]

  • If you attempt to rob a bank you won’t have any trouble with rent/food bills for the next 10 years, whether or not you are successful.
  • Every time you clean something, you just make something else dirty.
  • The word “swims” upside-down is still “swims.”
  • Intentionally losing a game of rock, paper, scissors is just as hard as trying to win.
  • 100 years ago everyone owned a horse and only the rich had cars.  Today everyone has cars and only the rich own horses.
  • The doctors that told Stephen Hawking he had two years to live in 1953 are probably dead.
  • If you replace “W” with “T” in “What, Where and When” you get the answer to each of them.
  • If you rip a hole in a net, there are actually fewer holes in it than there were before.

Thursday on Friday

I was going to lie to you and say that I decided to give my Friday readers a taste of my Thursday Thoughts.  Truth is, I lost a day.  Here, then, on Friday–thanks to Pope Francis–is my offering of a something-to-consider Thursday Thought:

“If we want security, let us give security; if we want life, let us give life; if we want opportunities, let us provide opportunities. The yardstick we use for others will be the yardstick which time will use for us.” – Pope Francis in his 9/24/15 address to the U.S. combined Congress

No Bad Souls

Today’s Thursday Thought may cause us to look at people differently:

“Every soul is special. They’re all beautiful. They’re all far more significant than anyone on this rock realizes. I think when people are at their best, they’re acting in accordance with their soul. The ones who have gone bad don’t have bad souls. They’ve just given up on keeping in touch with them.”  (Jim Butcher, Vignette)

Washington (not DC) Wisdom

Today’s short Thursday Thought quote comes from Washington the man, not the place, although people working for us in the place should take heed:
