Human Contradiction

Humans are such strange beings……

Natural Wonders

So many of us don’t give a thought to avoiding the use of and/or recycling of paper. Which was once part of a tree. Here’s why I care:

According to the Univ. of Indiana, each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!

Every Sheet Counts

Can recycling that sheet of paper matter?  The U.S. produced about 20,700,000 tons of paper last year, which took (depending on size) 55 – 110 million trees to produce. But we recycled only about 53% (11,000,000 tons).  Every recycled sheet counts.

E-Books Now Free

Free e-books.  Pretty good  deal.  I decided that it’s time for  me to make my five e-books available to anyone who might be interested,  for  free.  I’ve earned enough on them, and I’d rather more people read them.
Here are the titles:

.

APPLE-TEMPTING NEW: A TASTY TRIBUTE TO NEW LIFE — verses about a child’s first year of life, many from the child’s point of view.
 .
SMALL WAYS TO SHAPE THE WORLD — a sampling/supplement to my paper book (see below); little things we can do in our everyday lives that help make a kinder, more just world.
 .
GREEN RICHES: HELP THE EARTH & YOUR BUDGET — easy ways to help the environment without emptying your wallet.
.
SURVIVING YOUR CHILD’S FIRST YEAR: A GUIDE FOR THE EXTRA-CHALLENGED PARENT–practical ideas for new parents who are disabled or simply overburdened.
.
GOD SNEEZED–poetry about life, love, God, and funny times.
.
My paper book, SMALL THINGS COUNT: SIMPLE WAYS TO LIVE CHRIST’S LOVE EACH DAY, is also available to order.

No-Mess Clean-Up

Clean up that mess!  But not with paper towels.  They get too gunky and degrade so much when wet that they can’t be recycled.  If all Americans used one less per day of the 13 billion pounds we use annually, we’d save 571,230,000 pounds of paper a year. Use a rag instead, then toss it in with your wash and reused it for a later mess.  That way, you clean up a mess without creating another one for our planet.

Why Bother with Recycled Paper Products?

Buy and use recycled paper products.  Obviously, doing so will save trees and wildlife habitat.  In addition, because it takes more energy to make paper from trees than from recycled paper, if all the paper cluttering our homes and offices were made of recycled materials, we’d save enough energy to go visit those trees and wildlife some weekend.

How Much this Season Costs the Earth

Every year at this time, the U.S. creates an extra 5 million tons of waste, or 3.5 million metric tons of CO2.  Take a look at these numbers from www.terrapass.com.
