Germ-Crusted Dishes?

Air-dried dishes (rack or open dishwasher) are in no greater danger of gathering germs than  heat-drying them in the machine.  Yet heat drying can use at least an extra 25 kilowatt hours a year.  (If you’re really concerned about germs, avoid that dish towel that’s been reused and sitting around.)

No-Mess Clean-Up

Clean up that mess!  But not with paper towels.  They get too gunky and degrade so much when wet that they can’t be recycled.  If all Americans used one less per day of the 13 billion pounds we use annually, we’d save 571,230,000 pounds of paper a year. Use a rag instead, then toss it in with your wash and reused it for a later mess.  That way, you clean up a mess without creating another one for our planet.

Help Furry Orphans

You’ve already donated your old pillows, blankets, and towels to the orphaned furry ones.  Did you know that many animal shelters can also use pet food, cleaning supplies, plastic bags, and gloves?  Drop off these items to your local shelter, and take a peek at the orphans.  Be careful about looking into those little soulful eyes, though, or you may not go home alone–which isn’t a bad idea.
