LOOK AT WHAT SHE’S WEARING! I’ve said this to myself often, impressed by colorful ethnic dress. But because I haven’t gone up to the person to compliment her, I’ve missed a chance to get to know someone new and probably learn something about a culture I’m not familiar with. Too often we miss such chances. People from ethnic backgrounds different from our own are all around us. We can grab the opportunity by sitting with them at church or asking to join their table at the Fellowship that follows. We can engage them in conversation at a party, during work breaks, before and after meetings. Where we are gathered gives us subjects to talk about (the meeting topic or a critique of what the boss said or a new place to shop in the area). Our kids have been doing this since 2002 nationally and locally at “Mix It Up at Lunch Day.” If we follow their lead we’ll enrich each other’s lives and build a stronger human community.

For My Readers
I won’t be signing on again until Jan. 2, so let me take this opportunity to wish all of my readers a happy, healthy, peaceful, safe, and inspirational 2018. I don’t mention “prosperous,” because if we have all those other things, we’re prosperous far beyond what financial success can bring.
Support Trump?! Yes/No???!!!
Love him or hate him, agree with him or not, trust him or not–as of noon today, Donald J. Trump is President of the United States.
We are all Americans, who pride ourselves on being fair-minded and willing to give people a chance. Let’s come together and do just that, give him a chance to demonstrate that he is truly a President for all the people and has our country as his top priority. Once we see what he actually does we can react by expressing our displeasure (and pressuring our lawmakers to do something about it) or give credit where credit is due.
Our nation is divided and angry enough. Giving President Trump the opportunity to prove himself and his intentions is not only less divisive but is also the American ideal.
Pope Francis “Rules”
Who better to provide today’s Thursday Thought than Pope Francis in his 9/24/15 (this morning) address to the U.S. combined Congress? It’s an extension of the Golden Rule, which appears in some form in the holy books of all major world religions.
“[If] we want security, let us give security; if we want life, let us give life; if we want opportunities, let us provide opportunities. The yardstick we use for others will be the yardstick which time will use for us.”
Borowitz on Immigration: Tongue Firmly in Cheek
I have an admission to make: I like Andy Borowitz. I don’t always agree with him, but his satire appeals to me. He’s uses an equal-opportunity sword, slicing into Democrats and Republicans and anybody else when he thinks they need to be cut down to size. Today I share with you his reaction to the politics and human faces surrounding the latest immigration controversy.
