Does the U.S. Support Forcing Kids into Marriage?

A teenage girl in America forced to marry an older man in another country, then bring him in on a spousal visa.  A 49-year-old man applying for admission to the U.S. for his 15-year-old bride, likely married off by her family to the older man. These are NOT unusual examples.  Yet we let it happen.  Look at the facts:

  • The US approved thousands of requests by men to bring in child and adolescent brides to live in the United States over the past decade, data the Associated Press obtained show.
  • More than 8,600 minors came to the US as fiancees or spouses in the last 11 years following government approval.
  • The Immigration and Nationality Act does not set minimum age requirements.
  • Additionally, the US goes by whether the marriage is legal in the home country and then whether the marriage would be legal in the state where the petitioner lives, making the approvals legal.

Read the rest of the AP article The US government approved thousands of requests for men to bring child brides to the US and decide for yourself whether our country is condoning, if not encouraging, this practice which enslaves so many young girls. Then contact your Congress members and insist that they include corrective measures in the next immigration package.

Two-Minute History of Illegal Immigration

Could you or a close friend be called an “Illegal” in the near future? Yes. This  short video takes us through a history of who has been deemed “illegal” in the U.S. and why.  (Note: The video takes a short while to load, and you’ll probably have to right-click on it, then select “unmute” to get sound.)

The Racist History of Illegal Immigration

Where did the concept of "illegal immigration" even come from?If you look at who has been kept out of the U.S. over the decades, being "illegal" has a lot to do with race.

Melt Down the Statue of Liberty

The proposed new RAISE immigration act would change one of the foundations of our nation.  It would admit only people who speak English (to what extent is unclear–probably well), have good-paying jobs here already, and won’t (ever?) be on public assistance (deport them if they fall on hard times?). If it’s time to make this immigration change, so be it.  But we’ll need to remove the saying on the Statue of Liberty, because it will no longer apply:

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

While we’re at it, why not just melt her down and sell her for scrap metal to help take care of the poor who are already American citizens?  Why not?  After all, it Would be taking care of  REAL AMERICANS!

More Congressional Blood?

It’s happening AGAIN in Congress.  Instead of dealing with one major issue at a time, gnawing at it until a rational decision is made, they combine it with another, equally thorny issue.  Right now it’s immigration policy and funding Homeland Security.  True, there is some overlap with the two, but mainly on the surface.

What is this strategy of combining, a form of blackmail, stonewalling, or simply done for the love of a battlefield so sticky with blood that none of us can move?

Borowitz on Immigration: Tongue Firmly in Cheek

I have an admission to make: I like Andy Borowitz.  I don’t always agree with him, but his satire appeals to me.  He’s uses an equal-opportunity sword, slicing into Democrats and Republicans and anybody else when he thinks they need to be cut down to size. Today I share with you his reaction to the politics and human faces surrounding the latest immigration controversy.

Immigration Oddities

Immigration is a hot topic right now.  People are determined to stop all those service-sapping Illegals from violating our Southern borders.  May I offer two observations?

1) Most of the immigrants in Santa Clara County have college degrees.  Most immigrants find jobs and pay taxes.  Why can’t we offer services that help the rest of them become self-sufficient, taxpaying workers?  Isn’t that a win-win situation?

2) If we’re closing our Southern borders, why aren’t we doing the same in the North?  Is it more okay for all those immigrants to come in illegally from Canada (or overstay student and work visas)?  Are European Illegals desirable when Hispanics are not?

………I was just wondering…….
