Emotional Blackmail

“If you were my friend, you’d….”

“How would you like it if I told your parents/spouse/children/friends/boss that….”

“What about the time I did _____ for you?”

Anyone who says things like this to you is emotionally blackmailing you. So is gaslighting. And it isn’t always done with malicious intent.  Sometimes the person feels justified doing it. Even so, it’s abusive, and you shouldn’t put up with it. You need to confront it through communication.

Be Happier–Burn Your Newspaper

News is bad for us, it seems.  It’s toxic to our bodies, causes us to make mistakes, inhibits our thinking, acts like a drug, kills our creativity, and does much more damage to us.  This is according to The Guardian.   Read  “News is Bad for You,” which gives an interesting perspective on the news.  Then you may just want to burn–or at least cancel–your newspaper.

 

 

Responsible Weed-Killing

Weeds starting to bother you?  They’re the downside of the Spring we’ve been looking forward to.  So, get rid of them.  But don’t hit them with toxic weed killer.  Instead, spray them with vinegar right from the bottle and watch them wither.  Kill weeds, not the Earth.

Chimps Escape into Retirement

Chimps are getting retired, not rewired (or slathered with toxic creams or injected with poisons).  That’s good news from the National Institute of Health.  For years, researchers have known that 1) results of tests done on animals frequently don’t give a clue about how humans will react to the same test-substance, and 2) there are fake skins that mimic human skin and respond to substances like cosmetics as reliably as or more reliably than the skin of lab-animals.

Finally, some animals are being retired from the lab.  The Institute plans to send 90% of their chimps to a sanctuary. Now, if others will only follow their example….
