A Fresh Body, a Happy Earth

Expensive, earth-UNfriendly deoderants–something smells bad about that. But what can you do–if you want to live up-close in society?  Easy.  Here’s an alternative natural deodorant: apple cider vinegar.  Apply it directly to your armpits to kill body odor. It doesn’t have the eco-unfriendly chemicals found in packaged deodorant and is a lot less costly.

Anxiety No-Nos

Anxiety can be a harsh reality for just about anyone anytime. For some people, it’s a constant thing in their lives. Yet people often dismiss it with comments that are harmful, comments that make the anxiety worse or the person feel inadequate and depressed. Casey Cark’s Huffpost article “The Rudest Things People Can Say To Someone with Anxiety” provides six things people say that are wounding: 1) It’s all in your head. Stop worrying so much. 2) Calm down. 3) At least you don’t have it as bad as…. 4) Just power through it. 5) You just need to sleep/exercise/pray more. 6) It’s not a big deal.

Words really do matter.

A Repaid Loan

Today’s Thursday Thought quote is a lesson in kindness. Although it goes against our usual knee-jerk inclination, it’s a loan that will be repaid generously.

“Kindness is loaning someone your strength instead of reminding them of their weakness.” — unknown

Labor of Love and Appreciation

Monday is Labor Day.  We might have relaxation and a BBQ with friends in mind.  Maybe we’ll  even give a passing thought to all the workers we meet daily where we work or eat lunch.  But what about those closer to home?  Do we show appreciation for the work our spouse does around the house or for our family? Who labors over the gardening, laundry, cooking, planning, driving, finances, or myriad other tasks that keep a family running smoothly?  Probably us or our spouse.  Take a moment Monday—and often—to say “thank you” for something he or she does on a regular basis.  Simple words of gratitude, especially when spoken frequently, remind people that what they do is noticed and drives off that slithering snake of resentment, whose bite poisons relationships.

Throw Away that Food?

For health and safety, you read dates on food you buy and eat. Trouble is, “sell by,” best buy,” “expiration date” all mean different things. And nobody is clarifying the difference for us. Actually, most date-labels don’t mean that the food is bad, unhealthy, or dangerous to eat as of that date. The FDA is working on a clear, uniform system, but it will take time. Meanwhile, AARP offers some sound advice–use your senses.

I’m Back

Thanks to a roofer whose carelessness led to extensive damage inside my home, I’ve had to leave my home and live elsewhere for two months where internet was spotty most of the time, non-existent the rest of the time, That’s why I haven’t been posting. But I’m back now and will pick up my daily blog and tweets. I hope you didn’t give up on me.

Please Don’t Give Up on Me

I know I haven’t been posting much these last 6 weeks or so, but I’m still alive and kicking. Because of damage to my home, I’ve been living in a hotel with no access to internet. I’ve been able to go home sometimes for an hour when workers weren’t there, but not often. I WILL BE BACK!

A Powerful 5-Letter Word

Continuing my Wednesday offerings of a glimpse at a chapter of The Women in Me: How They Helped Me Survive and Thrive Ch 12 That Powerful 5-Letter Word: Like most people going through tough times – even agnostics – she had an on-again/off-again relationship with God. Growing up in a faith that was nurtured by her Influencers, she had a strong base. However, life has a way of beating people down, weakening even the strongest faith. She was no different. This chapter chronicles a faith journey readers will recognize. (For more info on the book, go to  www.smthingscount.com/women-in-me.)
