Many people on social media are posting rants against wearing masks because they don’t work. Of course, that ignores the fact that they work best when everyone wears them AND follows the other actions that are supposed to go along with it–hand-washing, distancing, avoiding groups. It also doesn’t consider HOW people HANDLE masks and mask-wearing.
If you didn’t see it, the Huffington Post had an article that addresses this. After observing a whole bunch of mask-wearing people, the author listed eight things people do without thinking that minimize, if not negate, the benefits of wearing a mask. The article is The Face Mask Mistakes People Make Without Realizing It. You can read details there, but here are those mistakes:
- You aren’t washing your hands before and after you take off your mask.
2. You aren’t cleaning your face after wearing a mask.
3. You’re sharing a mask with others.
4. You’re reusing disposable masks.
5. You’re washing your disposable mask.
6. You aren’t washing your reusable mask for days or even weeks.
7. You aren’t covering your nose and mouth with your mask.
8. You aren’t storing your mask correctly.
