I’m not happy by the resurgence of 14th century “whilst.” “While,” meaning the same thing, serves us well. The middle English version is very formal, yet I see such usages as “Hey, Joe, wait for me whilst I rob this bank.” It’s stilted and makes me vomit whilst I think about it.
