Elder Driving: Safety and Independence

Is there an older person in your life who should give up driving but hates to even think about it?  You can’t just sell their car or take away their keys, and blaming them for accidents or for driving too slowly only creates a rift between you.

AARP has a free online seminar that leads you through how to handle the situation.  It’s called We Need to Talk. Learn how to approach the subject in a natural, loving way, assess their driving skills, and discuss alternatives to driving themselves while maintaining their cherished independence.

This little course is a valuable tool. Take a look at it.

 

What Kids Are Saying

I’ve been listening to elementary school kids and teenagers as they talk to each other. Two terms are now ‘way too common for my comfort.  No, not the usual profanity.  These are terms that are more disturbing because they reflect a loss of innocence that should not be happening.

One is “active shooter,” which was once a term used only  by SWAT.

The other one I thought I left back in my childhood–“duck and cover.”

Talk and Action

Today’s Thursday Thought is a Biblical one that struck me because of how much inhumane action is going on in our world today in the name of doing what’s best for people.

The Dalai Lama has such a clear vision of life.  I could use him every Thoughtful Thursday and never run out of his bits of wisdom.

 

 

 

The Most Effective “Thon”

Ted Cruz did it last September.  30 Senate Democrats did it last night.  Dr. Seuss participated posthumously.  They called it an overnight “talk-a-thon.”

My advice to all legislators: Can the Talk-a-Thon and start a Vote-a-Thon to get things done!
