Always Drink Responsibly

Drink responsibly EVERY DAY!   You go to meetings, coffee breaks, PTA functions, and soccer matches, accompanied by the ever-present cup of coffee or bottle of water.  You stop at Starbucks or 7-11 for coffee.  You jog with a bottle of water.  So, care for our planet by lessening the amount of Styrofoam and plastic on the roadsides and in the landfill.  Keep a coffee cup at your desk at work and a commuter mug in your car for use at meetings or filling at Peet’s.  Fill a water bottle on your way out to a game or run.  Keep a couple filled, in the refrigerator or freezer (great for a hot day at an arts festival).  Just be sure to rotate your cups and bottles often, bringing them home for a thorough cleaning to avoid bacteria growth.  This keeps both you and the Earth healthier.

Use that Left-Over Coffee in Un-thought-of Ways

Most of us either toss out left-over coffee so we can wash the pot or refrigerate it and drink the questionable liquid the next day.  Thanks to AARP, I now know other ways to use it instead. I  think I’ll try these. Well, I’m not sold on the salad dressing yet……..

Ice It: Coffee ice cubes are great in iced coffee; they don’t dilute the drink as the ice melts. Or add your preferred milk and flavorings to the coffee and pour into Popsicle-type molds for a frozen treat tomorrow.

Make Sauce: After pan-frying chicken or pork, deglaze the pan with coffee rather than wine, for a deeper, Southern-style gravy.

Prepare Jerky: Marinate beef slices in strong coffee and your favorite flavorings for up to eight hours, then dry the beef in the oven at 200ºF for about four hours.

Top Your Pancakes: Combine coffee with melted butter and pour.

Brine a Chicken: Coffee-based brines that include spices such as cloves, star anise, peppercorns and, of course, plenty of salt make for a delicious and moist roast chicken.

Dress a Salad: For a simple coffee vinaigrette, cook equal parts brewed coffee, balsamic vinegar and maple syrup on the stove at a low heat until the mixture is syrupy. Top it off with a little lemon juice.”

Pods, Pods, Pods

Time to rethink how these things are made…and used.

Life Without Muslims

Let’s collect all the Muslims and ship them out of our country.  They don’t add much to our culture, anyway.  That’s what some people would have us think.  Actually, what would our daily lives be like if Muslims didn’t exist?  Before you bathe, have your wake-up cup of coffee, go on a trip, take a video of your grandchild, or a number of other things, watch this video to find out.

Starbucks & Animal Welfare

Is your cup of coffee supporting animal cruelty?  Starbucks may have an animal welfare policy but it doesn’t follow it.  Watch a short video on how the eggs Starbucks uses are produced in battery cages, read more information, then sign the petition.  Go to the Change.org page now.
