The Ideal of Beauty

Today’s Thursday Thought quote struck me as a very simple truth.

Not Down on Down Syndrome

If you know someone with Down Syndrome, you know this is true:

Three Dogs and a Bird–Their Day

Kaya and Sargent, and my African Grey parrot, Max.  Why?  It’s the 12th Annual National Pet Day.  The dogs give me unconditional love, devotion, and protection from solicitors and bad buys who dare even think about coming to my home.  (The bird even barks!) All of them make me laugh  at times when I need it, comfort me in my “down” times, remind me of the  beauty and diversity of Nature, and drive away the loneliness that sometimes creeps into my life. All they ask in return is food, water, and some play-time with their human.

To them–and to all of your pets–I wish a happy National Pet Day.

Thoughts from a Purple Flower

Today’s Thursday Thought quote is a cost-free idea that is priceless.

“When you see something beautiful in a person, tell them.  It may take seconds to say but for them, it could last a lifetime.” — The Purple Flower

Three Dogs and a Bird, On their Day

Today I  give special loving attention to my dog, Riley, my grand-dogs, Kaya and Sargent, and my African Grey parrot, Max.  Why?  It’s the 11th National Pet Day.  The dogs give me unconditional love, devotion, and protection from solicitors and bad buys who dare even think about coming to my home.  All of them make me laugh  at times when I need it, comfort me in my “down” times, remind me of the  beauty and diversity of Nature, and drive away the loneliness that sometimes creep into my life. All they ask in return is food, water, and some play-time with their human.

To them–and to all of your pets–I wish a happy National Pet Day.

Spring Headfirst

Today, nothing heavy, no suggestions for action.  Today, on the first day of Spring, I just want you to enjoy this picture and immerse yourself in the beauty, new life, and promises of the season. Then, spring headfirst into a joyous day.

Surrounded by Beautiful People

Recently, because of a death in the family, I’ve discovered how many beautiful people I’m surrounded by.  That’s why today’s Thursday Thought is so meaningful to me.

Great News for Monarch Lovers

I’ve missed those gorgeous orange-, black-, and white-winged visitors to my yard.  There used to be many, but for years I’d be lucky to see one on their 3,400-mile yearly migration. That’s because the Monarch butterfly has been dying out, thanks, in large part, to logging and herbicides killing off the milkweed they need.

Efforts by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada are starting to reverse that loss of color in our world.  We’re planting milkweed along 1000 miles of their migration path.  And Mexico is successfully stopping illegal logging on the Monarch reserve, logging that has been destroying the forest that protects those butterflies in the winter.

The progress is encouraging. I look forward to their return to my yard, pollinating my plants and brightening my summer.

A Film Experience Not to Miss

Beautiful new IMAX movie now playing to celebrate the 100th birthday of our National Park Service.  For a taste, watch this short trailer, narrated by Robert Redford.  Then watch for the movie in a theater near you.  I plan to do just that…and continue to enjoy the gift of our parks.

Naked and Natural

Maybe it’s just my slanted way of looking at things, but I think Vanessa Williams’ nude pictures ‘way back when she was forced to relinquish her Miss America title made her a more honest beauty queen.  The pictures showed her in all her glory, without props.  On the other hand, fully clothed beauty contestants have all the advantages that allow them to display their assets (no pun intended) to their greatest advantage.  They have high heels that curve their legs, hidden tape to perk up and enhance their breasts and hold them in place, supportive material in their clothing to accent their curves and hide perceived flaws, “butt glue” to keep the bathing suit bottom in the most flattering position, push-up bra under the swimsuit top to give that ready-to-pop-out look…and these are only the the few tricks I’ve heard about.  If you’re naked, you can’t use any of them.

Not that I’m proposing that beauty pageants should all be held in the nude.  It would be more honest, though.
